Relocating to London Ontario
London and the Thames were named in 1793 by John Graves Simcoe who originally wanted the site for the capital city of Upper Canada. However, it wasn't until the early 1800s that the first European immigrants settled in the area. The village was founded in 1826 and incorporated in 1855 and since then, the city of London has grown to be the largest Southwestern Ontario municipality and Canada's 11th largest metro area. Many of the smaller communities around it have been annexed.
London is a major centre for healthcare and education. It's the home to the University of Western Ontario (Western University), and three major hospitals including Victoria Hospital, University Hospital, and St. Joseph's Hospital.
London is home to several museums, has a thriving performing arts scene, festivals, and artistic exhibits. It's has a vibrant tourism industry as well as economic activity on medical research, insurance, and information technology. It's home to several parks, the largest being Victoria Park in downtown and the host for many community events attracting over 1 million visitors each year. It boasts a number of gardens and conservatories and residents enjoy several festivals including the London Fringe Theater Festival, the London Ontario Live Arts Festival, the Home County Folk Festival, and many, many others. The London Rib Fest is the second largest barbecue rib festival in northern America. Son says it is a world music Festival and the second largest in Canada after Toronto Caribbean Carnival.

London is governed by four school boards the Thames Valley District School Board, the London District Catholic School Board and the French first-language school boards, the Conseil scolaire Viamonde and the Conseil scolaire catholique Providence or CSC. There are more than 20 private schools throughout the city and to post-secondary institutions.
