Relocating to Waterloo Ontario
Waterloo is often rated as one of the top 10 cities to live in the country. It's a fantastic place for outside and indoor attractions, festivals, events, good food, and great shopping. The 2 km² RIM Park is both an indoor and outdoor facility. It offers a 7 km loop trail, beach volleyball, 12 multipurpose fields, a playground, and six ball diamonds. It's also home to the SportsPlex which features for Olympic size ice pads, two gyms and an indoor field.
Arts, culture, and golf can all be enjoyed in Waterloo. The Gray Silo Golf Courses in 18 hole course open to the public within that aforementioned RIM Park. It has hosted the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic between 2010 and 2014. The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery is a great place to spend a rainy afternoon with over 20,000 people visiting each year.
The Conestoga Mall is one of the largest in the area featuring over 63,000 m² and over 130 shops and services. It also is home to a museum containing over 10,000 historical artifacts.
The annual Kitchener and Waterloo Oktoberfest is the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany and has been running for over 75 years attracting over 700,000 folks each year. There are fantastic events throughout the nine day festival including a barrel race, 5K fun run, parade, car show, exhibits and of course, beer.
Like trains? Jump on the Waterloo Central Railway. This unique steam train runs three times a day starting at the St. Jacobs farmers market in the village of St. Jacobs and ending in Elmira Ontario. And that St. Jacobs farmers market is an attraction in its own right. It was established in 1975 and has multiple vendors, locally grown food, baked goods, crafts and an animal farm.
Waterloo Ontario Schools
Waterloo is known for its two major universities, the University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University established in 1911 as a Waterloo Lutheran Seminary of Canada. The Waterloo Region School District Board serves the majority of Waterloo with five high schools and two operate in Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
